Megavina's Investigators have visited this bistro in Tay Ninh city, they selected a few dishes and beverages, they checked the cleanliness and how the staff interacted with clients. Our investigators work anonymously, the best way to get real and objective reviews because the staff and the managers don't know that we are investigating.

Interesting dishes, comfortable bistro

- by - Establishment visited October 15, 2016

A new Bistro in town, Megavina decided to visit this establishment. In fact, we had to visit two times because when we came for the first time the menu was new with just a few dishes available.

Du Nam bistro could be considered as a lounge more than a Bistro, probably they took the name "Bistro" without knowing the meaning. The decoration is nice and the atmosphere quite peaceful at night time. If Du Nam serves beverages, it's also possible to eat. The selection is quite interesting to tempt you.

For our first visit, we arrived for dinner, the manager came to us and helped us to choose. We selected calamari served with lemongrass, the chef used the lemongrass as skewers, quite original, calamari were soft, tender and savoury (now it was difficult to say if it was calamari or cuttlefish). We ordered an Australian beef served with green pepper sauce, very tender meat and succulent sauce. Then to finish rolled beef served with fresh asparagus. We also sipped on 2 cocktails very refreshing. Everything was perfect despite of may be small portions and a lack of presentation.

For our second visit, we came for lunch, welcoming was less professional, waiters seemed more shy and less efficient than the first time. We ordered a pan seared salmon perfectly cooked on skin, topped with a lightly chilli pepper sauce and salad. Then we continued with a Bò lúc lắc (cubed beef sauteed with tomatoes, onions, sweet peppers). Very tasty dish, the only thing missing was the bread. We asked for it but the waiter said they didn't have any bread. In a meantime, it's unusual in Vietnam to eat bread with any meal. Our third dish was spaghetti Bolognese, probably not the best dish of the menu, the sauce was bland, it was clear that the chef didn't know how to prepare this Italian dish. To finish, we tasted grilled lamb top with a green pepper sauce without any vegs, potatoes or salad. The meat was good but it looked empty in the plate! we chose 1 panna cotta and a piece of cake (desserts are not homemade but quite ok).

Du Nam Bistro is an interesting place to discover fusion food. Interesting because it's the first place in Tay Ninh city to offer that kind of sophisticated dishes. Hoping the chef will be more creative in the future and will focus on "flavour and presentation", we will be happy to visit again this establishment. Megavina loves originality, creativity and flavours!

    Tay Ninh,

If the concept is inspiring, ambience friendly, it's not really a Bistro, not really a restaurant. Du Nam is a coffee bar serving food, if some dishes are delicious and creative (calamari and lemongrass or Australian beef topped with a green pepper sauce), others are bland and not savoury at all. Desserts are not homemade. We could expect much better! In a meantime, it was felt that a young establishment should have time to find its feet.
