Good ambience, friendly Owner Yen
- by Megavina Travel - Establishment visited July 16, 2016In July 2016, we visited Le Petit Bistro Con gà Pháp managed by the french owner Claude, on the way to go back our hotel while exploring the streets, we discovered a crowded little restaurant named Yen's. Black storefront, thick bordeaux curtains, the establishment was very welcoming.
The next morning, we decided to take a coffee (at this time we were the only people there). A charming lady came to us and she introduced herself as Yen (the owner of the restaurant). She took our order, she was very smiley and self-confident.
We drunk our coffee before eating a vietnamese stuffed pancake (Banh Xeo) with pork and shrimps but also different kind of vegetables. It was very good and savory, the crust was soft and the stuffing warm but not overcooked.
The coffee had a full flavoured taste, a good balance between bitterness and a chocolate after-taste.
Do you know what makes Vietnamese coffee taste so distinctive and delicious?
Vietnamese coffee is almost always Robusta. Vietnam is the world's second largest exporter of coffee. In Vietnam, Robusta is the traditional bean and also one of the cheapest one. Vietnamese coffee is almost always drip coffee. Go out to any Vietnamese street coffee stall and you'll find rudimentary aluminium drip filters and cups of exquisitely aromatic black coffee underneath. The Vietnamese like their coffee nice and slow, and setting up the filter and choosing right time to drink is an art in itself. Drip coffee is very thick, and the coffee bean is usually intentionally over-roasted, making it quite bitter. A frequent way to enjoy this is with condensed milk and ice (cà phê sữa đá), and it naturally maintains a strong taste - everything is condensed in this cup, even the water! Drip coffee is the way Vietnamese people create and enjoy conversation.
As you may have already know, the coffee came to Vietnam via the French and Dutch settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the vietnamese adopted the beverage and made it their own. Because fresh milk was not readily available, they adopted sweetened condensed milk instead.
After our breakfast, we talked to Yen about the area and what we could do. She was very friendly and talkative. We decided to come back a few days later not to breakfast but to dinner.
When we arrived Yen recognized us immediately, we followed her to a table and she introduced our waiter for the evening. Restaurant was crowded, many tourists, many different languages (english, russian and may be chinese (not sure))
The food selection was great and prices quite cheap comparing to competitors in the area.
What tourists expect from a restaurant is welcoming, friendly staff and good food, ambience is also important that's why Yen's restaurant is a place to visit during your next holidays in Nha Trang.

Melbourne,Good establishment, staff is friendly food is tasty without being excellent. Comparing to many other restaurants around, Yen's restaurant is a good choice, it's may be just missing a bit of creativity in the menu. Offering authentic cuisine doesn't mean do exactly like others!
