Long Son Pagoda
Phật Học Phương Sơn, Nha Trang Khánh Hòa
Nha Trang boasts several beautiful pagodas or temples, but one of the most impressive and interesting of them is Long Son Pagoda. It was originally built on Mount Trai Thuy in 1886 and named Dang Long Pagoda. In 1990, however, it was damaged in a storm and then being rebuilt down to the mountain to its present on Thai Nguyen Street. The new Long Son Pagoda is now the largest pagoda in Vietnam.
With its convenient location right in the city centre of Khanh Hoa Province, Long Son Pagoda serves the Buddhist community. This pagoda is built to show the deep gratitude of Vietnamese people to the Buddhist monks and nuns who set themselves on fires to protest Diem regime.
As a symbol of perfection and purity, there is a huge Buddha seated on a blossoming lotus on the hilltop behind the pagoda. The base of statue has 7 meters and the height of the statue is 21 meters. Around the statue are statues of seven adamants. In front of the statue is a pair of dragons, which are 7.20 meters. The statue is visible from afar as visitors enter the city, from either the national highway or by train.
