Do hotel star ratings mean anything anymore?
Each country has different requirements for awarding stars -- a four-star rating in Melbourne or Sydney, is different from a four-star rating in Ho Chi Minh city, Bangkok, Montreal or Paris.
This can make star-rating systems confusing because there is no universal star rating system. In some countries, official star ratings can be a reliable guide to a hotel's amenities. But most ratings systems are poorly or completely unregulated, rendering them almost completely worthless and in many places ratings are manipulated by clever reputation management operatives so the system can't be trusted.
A unified global rating system has been proposed by the World Hotel Rating Project, but so far nothing has gotten off the ground.
To help you finding good, very good and excellent hotels, you may follow our rates. Scores are left by our investigators who visited the establishments and wrote a professional review. Better is the rate, better is the quality of the services offered by the hotels! The rate is not based on the stars but on the quality of the services offered.
