The best time to buy your international airline ticket
When you travel internationally for pleasure or leisure, you are always looking for the best deal, the best value for your money. This invariably leads to the question "when should I buy my airline ticket to get the best offer?
We followed the advices of Cheapair on their blog and tried to get the best rates by changing the day of departure. On the cheapair's map, they suggest 160 days for Asia International flights.
So we started by selecting a flight between Ho Chi Minh city and Melbourne for 2 persons using VietnamAirlines, our dates from June 1, 2016 to June 8, 2016, the price for return tickets was 3,034AUD (50.000.000d). Now we wanted to compare fares so we selected another date in the future (departure November 1, 2016 / return November 8, 2016). If Cheapair is correct we should see a significant price drop. The result is 2.174AUD, a difference arises between the cost of 860AUD!

What about domestic flights?
A comprehensive study on domestic flights indicated that 54 days in advance is, on average, the best time to buy. So we compared 2 flights between Ho Chi Minh city and Da Nang.
1/6/2016 - 8/6/2016 for 2 people the cost is 300.80usd (6.700.000d). Now let's change the date starting the 4/7/2016 until the 11/7/2016, the cost is 278.80usd (6.200.000d). A difference arises between the cost of 500.000d!

Now before to organize your next vacations, you should take in consideration:
- The date of departure (you may compare different dates, you can have big surprises!)
- The season (you should always be aware of seasonality when booking international airfare, between high and low season, high season flights might even be double the price!)
- Beware of festivals, New Year's Eve, special events that can affect the number of tourists booking in same time their tickets.
Although international flight prices tend to be somewhat less volatile than domestic flights, you should still be checking fares at least a few times a week to increase the odds of finding a great deal.
