Takahata Fudoson Kongo-ji Temple, one of the best-known spots in Tokyo for viewing hydrangeas, is set to host a Hydrangea Festival from June 1 to July 7, 2016, when the flowers reach full bloom. Various events are organized including a photography contest, haiku and tanka poetry competition, and quiz in the grounds stretching over an area of some 10 hectares enveloped in ancient greenery, where each of the 7,500 shrubs of 250 species bloom in a different color.
The "path of four seasons" making up part of the 88-statue pilgrimage course, even features several beds of lovely wild varieties of hydrangea. Enjoy an early summer stroll along with the view of historical structures such as the Fudodo Hall, representing the oldest building in Tokyo designated an architectural monument, and the Niomon Gate, built in the Muromachi period (ca 1336–1573).
