In your opinion, what should be improved to develop and encourage the Tourism in Vietnam?
From January 2015,
5015
travelers filled out this survey.1 - What do you think of bad quality of the roads and gutters not adapted for the raining season?
Summary of the answers left by english travelers and expats who visited Vietnam in 2015
From north to south the quality of the roads is very bad, in the countryside it's even worse. There are just a few gutters but the problem is that vietnamese people get used to throw away their food and garbages inside. During the raining season, gutters are full and roads impassable.
2 - If you could change something today in Vietnam to make it more attractive, what should it be?
Answers reflect the opinion of foreigners and not vietnamese, to know what vietnamese think of please read the answers in the vietnamese page
- Vietnam is a beautiful country but with very bad habits, the main problem starts from the airport, customs officers are not friendly and not polite, after more than 13 hours in the plane, we would appreciate a smile and a "welcome to Vietnam".
Real taxi, bogus taxi drivers charging you twice the price, it's difficult to know, hopefully they are a few friendly people wearing green shirts at the airport who will help you to get a taxi to your hotel. Taxi drivers don't speak english, it's a shame!
- The conditions of hygiene are deplorable, street sellers are very dirty, they never clean their hands and many of them are rude.
- Most of the vietnamese don't speak english, if you need something you have to ask students
- To get a correct service you have to choose a 4 or 5 stars hotel, but you have to know that sometime the staff in luxury establishment can be very arrogant, where are the managers to train the staff?
3 - Do you think vietnamese have to learn seriously english if they want to improve the tourism industry?
84% of the travelers who answered this survey think that Vietnamese have to improve their services
To be able to attract more customers, yes Vietnam has to improve the quality of the services offered and to speak at least english will help a lot.
4 - How do you feel when you visit a shop or a local market? Do you think the sellers are good enough? welcoming? polite? clean?
92% of the travelers who answered this survey think that markets and street sellers are rude, impolite and dirty
- Most of the markets are very dirty, vietnamese are working directly on the floor, hygiene is deplorable. Fishes stink from the head, the raw meat is left on a wooden table during hours, there is no refrigerated system.
Vietnamese sellers are liar and want to rip you off, you pay twice the price and if you don't want to buy they are angry.
Sellers are not very friendly for most of them, quite rude and impolite, they will never say "Hello" even in vietnamese and don't expect "Thank you"!
88% of tourists complain about garbages everywhere It's difficult to find community garbage cans and toilets in Vietnam, so everybody throw away paper, bottles, garbages, almost everything on the floor or on the side ot the roads. Men used to pee on the walls, over shrubs, almost everywhere, sometimes it really stinks. Police doesn't say anything! Only 66% of the tourists consider it's important! Vietnamese are rude and impolite but it seems to be cultural, they don't say "hello" but check sometimes their head or smile. If they want to improve the quality of their services, they should make more efforts to satisfy their clients starting by stopping riping off their customers and foreigners... Lottery ticket sellers are really harassing us... Tickets! he you! motorbike! if you visit Vietnam you will meet every single day, street sellers trying to sell you lottery tickets, cheap accessories or any objects... This will quickly irritate you and rapidly send you crazy... 94% of the tourists don't know how to bargain. When i travel, i check online the price of the vegetables and drinks, a coca-cola can should cost 8000đ and not 20000đ. When you know the real cost, you don't even try to bargain because you know that you will never pay the same price than vietnamese... Police? not sure they are doing their job... Better use Vinasun taxis or May Linh taxis To avoid any problems better use respectable companies, Vinasun and May Linh. It doesn't mean that their drivers won't cheat you for a few thousands dongs but you won't pay twice the normal price. 91% of the tourists don't understand why vietnamese are so violent with pets and animals Tourists are not complaining about the fact that vietnamese eat dogs and cats but for the violence, the torture and barbarity. Vietnamese governement has to deal with those who neglect animals, those who have an animal and are not able to care for it. The government has to stop pet burglars but also close all the pet food restaurants and market sellers. Lazy, dangerous, this is the profile of a vietnamese rider Small roads, too many scooters, no respect of the highway code, old buses, the traffic in Vietnam in the main cities is disastrous. In Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city, there are too many taxis and cars, riders are crazy because it's very messy. Police should stop more riders but also the public bus drivers, the truck drivers (driving old and dangerous trucks). We stay 15 days in Saigon, we saw 4 cops??? In Hanoi, the law is never respected so every day there are so many accidents on the roads. 100% of the tourists answered yes Lottery ticket sellers shouldn't even sell to foreigners, there are too many sellers, when you stay 1 hour in a coffee bar, you meet at least 20 sellers, it's unacceptable! They are disturbing and even a bit rude. Vietnam is a beautiful country but with a lack of professionalism. Vietnamese are poor seller because they get used to rip off foreigners. Hygiene is deplorable and most of the places to visit are very dirty. 82% of the tourists will never come back to Vietnam but they will prefer visiting Cambodia and Thailand instead. 34% think that Vietnam is the worst asian place to visit 58% think that the cost of the Visa is too expensive (in July the cost is much cheaper and 15 days free visa for many countries) 44% didn't enjoy their hotel but 76% are quite happy with the vietnamese food Share your experience5 - Many foreign tourists complain about hygiene and dirty places not only in big cities but also in the countryside, around the temples and on many beaches.
6 - Do you think vietnamese have to learn to say Hello, Good morning/evening or even Xin Chào to tourists instead of checking the head down? or tourists have to respect the vietnamese customs?
7 - Street sellers seem to be a real problem mainly in big cities like Saigon or Hanoi? Do you think the government should organize more control or even penalties for rude sellers?
8 - Prices in the markets and in many places are not set, vietnamese use to bargain but it is not easy for tourists. Do you think all the prices should be written to avoid rip off?
9 - Did you have any problem with taxis? Do you think they are serious and offer competitive prices?
10 - Do you think that in 2015, vietnamese have to improve their habits stopping eating, abusing dogs and cats? The pet consumption is a break to develop the tourism in Vietnam
11 - Most of the vietnamese do not respect the highway code provoking many accidents, the traffic is messy. Do you think the police should be more trained to control the riders?
12 - Do you feel exhausted by ticket sellers when you go out? Tens of them asking you to buy lottery tickets.
13 - You just answered 12 questions, what is for you the most important criteria to improve reviving the tourism sector?
