Megavina's review: VIII Re Italian restaurant
Megavina's Investigators have visited this Italian restaurant managed by the Chef Roberto Mancini, they chose a selection of dishes and beverages, visited the facilities (toilets and had a look on the kitchen area if possible), they checked the cleanliness and how the staff interacted with clients. Our investigators work anonymously, the best way to get real and objective reviews because the staff and the managers don't know that we are investigating.
Great, savoury, welcoming!
- by Megavina Travel - Establishment visited March 24, 2016At just a few minutes away from Crescent Mall, VIII Re restaurant is quite welcoming and friendly, a large cellar presenting wines and sparkling wines, wooden tables and chairs, smiley staff and a good smell coming from the kitchen and from the wood-fired oven.
The menu was large, we took our time to discover each dish presented, after a few minutes the chef Roberto Mancini came to our table to know if we needed some advice. He is a famous Italian chef, he worked for many prestigious establishments in Asia for example at the Basilico restaurant (InterContinental Asiana Saigon), at Opera restaurant in the heart of Ho chi minh city (Park Hyatt Saigon), at Portofino restaurant in Surabaya - Indonesia (Shangri-La hotels and resorts), at The Roppongi Hills Club in Tokyo, Intercontinental Shanghai Expo... We were very pleased to meet him!
We ordered as starter Antipasto All'Italiana composed of italian cold cuts, marinated vegetables, aged Grana Padano (a cheese that we can easily compare to Parmigiano/Parmesan), Kalamata olives (easily recognizable due to their unique color more dark purple than black, a smooth taste but a meaty texture) and Buffalo mozzarella. An interesting medley, a good choice to start a dinner. Each cold cut had a unique taste from smoke to spicy, the Grana padano cheese was hard but not crumbled yet so we can imagine it was still young less than 16 years old.
As main course, we selected Gran Griliata mista di Carne which is an assortment of different meats (beef, chicken and Italian sausages). It could be interested to select a Bardolino, a light red wine made on the eastern shores of Lake Garda, in the Veneto region of north-eastern Italy.
A cook was making wood oven pizzas just behind us, it was smelling so good so we decided before leaving to order one funghi & Proscuitto pizza. Pizza was gorgeous with a crusty dough, savoury cooked ham and mushrooms, a delicious tomato sauce made with plum tomatoes and herbs topped with mozarella cheese. He was using caputo flour produced by a Naples mill since 1924 so the dough was excellent, digest, fresh, crusty, delicate in mouth, It's very difficult to compare with Espy, Pizza Hutt or even Pizza 4P's because the taste is so different. If we had to give a note only for the pizza, it should be 8.98/10.
VIII Re it's an interesting restaurant for meat, seafood, pizza and pasta lovers. The menu selection is interesting because it doesn't offer only pizzas and pastas, and the value for money is very correct. The general atmosphere is great, welcoming, the food is particularly savoury.
