Megavina's Investigators have visited this french establishment, they order a selection of dishes and beverages, visited the facilities (toilets and had a look on the kitchen area if possible), they checked the cleanliness and how the staff interacted with clients. Our investigators work anonymously, the best way to get real and objective reviews because the staff and the managers don't know that we are investigating.

Delicious pastries in a french atmosphere

- by - Establishment visited March 26, 2016

Une Journée à Paris is a tiny patisserie and restaurant offering a large selection of homemade breads, pastries, desserts, ice creams and french dishes. Welcoming was friendly, we met a charming owner lady very active managing a small vietnamese team.

At midday, the establishment was crowded, we were lucky to arrive at the right time. Many tourists had to wait for a table. Menu was quite large offering a selection of breakfast, sandwiches, salads, hot dishes and desserts.

We chose first a sandwich called "Le Spécial", homemade crusty french baguette filled with Camembert cheese, ham, tomatoes, salad, black olives. Very savory, very fresh, a unique taste similar to sandwiches sold in France.

To continue, we selected a "salade fraicheur" composed of green salad, cherry tomatoes, black olives, Parma ham, boiled eggs, parmesan cheese, red onions, topped with a balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing.

As desserts, we tasted a Meringue lime tartlet, this dessert was bursting with fresh lime taste and a sweet, creamy real meringue topping. Not too sweet, perfectly balanced between the acidity of the lemon and the sugar of the meringue. We finished with a chocolate Religieuse whose name means "Nun" that we took away to eat a few hours later. It was also very yummy, the choux pastry (or pâte à choux in French) was light but not elastic even after a few hours in a fridge, the "crème pâtissière" flavored with chocolate had a fresh and creamy texture.

Staff was very friendly, our waitress didn't speak french but understood very well English, she took care of us during all our meal.

Important to notice that Orangina drink was available (quite rare to find it in Saigon). For those who may not be familiar with this famous french beverage, Orangina is a carbonated citrus beverage made from orange, lemon, mandarin, and grapefruit juices and containing orange pulp! We would have prefer the small bulbous glass bottle unfortunately they just had by can. It was still better than nothing!

Une Journée à Paris is the perfect place to enjoy french pastries, breads and a selection of traditional dishes with a good value for money! It's also a good place to meet french people in a convivial atmosphere.
