Megavina's review: Alagon Saigon Hotel and Spa

Comfortable, peaceful, friendly!- by Megavina Travel - Establishment visited September 14, 2015
Alagon hotel is located in district 1, a good choice for travelers. There are 2 entrances in this establishment, one on Ly Tu Trong street and one on Pham Hong Thai street. We arrived from the first one, a groom opened the door and the reception welcomed us. Another staff member wearing a bordeaux uniform brought 2 glasses of cold tea, during the short time we had to wait. In fact we understood that the main entrance was not here, the groom took our luggage so we followed him through the restaurant to get access to another reception much bigger.
We booked our room in advance so the check-in was quite quick, we had the number 805. We asked for the Wellness pack including spa, bathtub and Hammam so the receptionist gave us 2 vouchers ($30 value) for an access to the rooftop but also a 10% off ticket on any drinks.
Concerning the room, we were surprised to find a dark and small bedroom without any window like on the Booking's photos. There was a small window but with a corridor view only. The bathroom had a bath and shower, a small lucky bamboo on the sink, it was clean but also a bit dark. Most of the lights have a yellow colour making a warm atmosphere but not very practical for women when they have to make-up. The bed seemed very large but very quickly we understood that they were something wrong, in fact they stuck 2 mattresses together to make a king size bed. Very uncomfortable to sleep if you are a couple! There were a few complimentaries such as coffee, tea and 2 bottles of water.
Concerning the breakfast, there was a large selection of dishes, mainly vietnamese food (fruits, ha kao, sausages, rice, soup, Pho, eggs...) with a few dishes such as pastas, french fries. It's not a continental breakfast but it was good, the waiter asked us if we wanted more coffee, the staff was very smily and efficient, particularly a tall guy (not sure he was vietnamese, with a dark skin) was very professional, polite and spoke a very good english.
Concerning the facilities, we have been to the rooftop, we were welcomed by a girl who presented us all the facilities, we met a man who was cleaning the jacuzzi tub, very friendly. We planned to go to the bar at night time, unfortunately it was heavy raining so we changed our plans. We really loved that place so we were a bit sad not to enjoy cocktails or drinks on the terrace.
If Alagon Hotel is very well located, many shops around, just a few minutes walking from Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica, we can point out their main shortcomings, quality of some guest rooms. We must be objective and considerate that we were probably unlucky to get a room quite uncomfortable, there are 47 other rooms available. The staff is kind particularly the groom outside who calls the taxi for you, always smiley and ready to help you. It's true that some clients may not like the breakfast buffet because most of the dishes are vietnamese and hot, in a meantime as a traveler it's good to taste different food, isn't it?
We paid 85USD for our room, for this price we could expect a bit better
