Megavina's Investigators have visited this beautiful establishment, they tested a room, the main services and facilities, they checked the cleanliness and how the staff interacted with clients. Our investigators work anonymously, the best way to get real and objective reviews because the staff and the managers don't know that we are investigating.

Somptuous, gaudy, extravagant

- by - Establishment visited October 24, 2015 - Content updated July 19, 2016.

The Reverie Saigon is part of the Leading Hotels of the World (LHW), one of the largest luxury hotel collections in the world comprising more than 430 of the world's finest hotels, resorts and spas in 80 countries. In Vietnam, there are only 2 LHW establishments, the Reverie Saigon in Ho Chi Minh city and the Nam Hai in Hoi An.

The Reverie Saigon is proud to announce the recent appointment of Mr. Kai Speth as the General Manager. Mr. Speth is an acclaimed hotelier with over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry including management positions in luxury hotels throughout Asia, he will be responsible for ensuring the hotel maintains the quality standards expected from a member of the Leading Hotels of the World as well as managing the growth and success of the luxury property.

The Reverie Saigon is a 30-minute taxi ride away from Tan Son Nhat International Airport. From the moment we stepped out of the cab, we were greeted with a smily and friendly doorman who took our luggages and another hotel staff who led us towards the lifts and right up to the lobby on the 7th floor. The reception furniture was grandiose beyond parody. Plush and richly detailed, the hotel's 224 rooms and 62 suites feel lavish and decadent without being overwrought.

The staff was attentive and pleasant but for a 5-star establishment, we could expect better services and more professionalism. For example, the barman working at the swimming pool bar was not well trained, there was a real lack of desire to serve us or he didn't know how to do it (it's difficult to say!). If most of the staff was polite, we can even say friendly and caring, some of them were a bit arrogant, such behaviour amounts to downright defiance of the norms and values of a somptuous 5-star establishment. However, that is not unusual for vietnamese staff to become cocky when they hold senior positions.

The Reverie Saigon has a splendid gaudy and extravagant design, a complete fantasy of over-the-top Italian creation at its most opulent and eye catching. It's difficult to express our feelings between excess and fabulous!

Our very spacious room on the 33rd floor was amazingly stunning. Bedding was very comfortable and the view over Saigon and the river was spectacular. 5-star services with complimentary mini-bar, a walk-in wardrobe and a complimentary bottle of wine with a hand-written welcome note from Christina Von Wrede (the Resident Manager). Rooms were also much larger and better equipped than the Park Hyatt Hotel. The extensive use of highly patterned and coloured granite and marble must have emptied a couple of Italian quarries! Everything in its place and a place for everything.

Breakfast was served on a restaurant on the 6th floor, it offered a cold buffet but also hot dishes. Choice and quality was fine but the Pho (national vietnamese soup) was not the best we have eaten. The bouillon should cook slowly during hours to develop the aromas.

The swimming-pool was large with a warm water, the ideal place to relax. If there is nothing understated about the Reverie Saigon... well, actually, that excludes the Wellness center, which looks as if it is the work of a different designer completely - a masterpiece of elegant good taste and a feast for the senses in every way. Designed for women, it's an enchanting place...

Now the question is: Is the Reverie Saigon the best luxurious establishment in Saigon? Somptuous decoration, attentive staff, beautiful rooms, several complimentaries, hotel very clean, fine and delicate food... Everything is done to create a stay near to perfection!

    Matsuyama,
